the power of the pause
On Thursday evening, I stood inside Take Care in D.C., a cozy, warm wellness space, in the company of women seeking connection and something deeper than noise.
There was no stage. No podium. Just a small white notebook in my hands.
I wasn’t there to teach or impress. I was there to share what has been reshaping my own life: the sacred space between doing and being.
For most of my life, I knew how to do very well…Achieve. Prepare. Perform.
But somewhere along the way, my nervous system grew tired of pushing.
That evening, we spoke about the power of the Pause. Not burnout. Not escape. But intentional pause.
And I said something that felt important enough to repeat: You do not need permission to pause.
So many of us wait…for exhaustion, for validation, for someone to tell us we’ve earned it.
But the Pause is not a reward. It is alignment.
We also unpacked what I call soft governance…the difference between pushing yourself forward and walking yourself forward.
When you push, there is pressure. When you walk yourself forward, there is steadiness, dignity, choice.
I could feel it land. Women nodded. Reflected. Shared their own stories.
And in that space, I was reminded…we don’t need to perform to be powerful.
We need to be present.
The space between doing and being is available to you now. Not after the next milestone. Not once everything is perfect.
You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to align. You are allowed to walk yourself forward.
