giving things room to grow
For the past few days, I've been thinking about how often we check on things….we refresh our inboxes, we glance at our phones hoping for a message…we wonder if we're making enough progress, or revisit decisions we've already made, quietly asking ourselves if we should be doing more.
As though if we pay closer attention...if we think a little harder...perhaps life will unfold more quickly.
I've been wondering if somewhere along the way we've forgotten that not everything beautiful responds to pressure.
A seed beneath the soil doesn't bloom because someone keeps digging it up to see if it's growing.
Bread doesn't rise because we keep opening the oven door.
A tree doesn't bear fruit because it is rushed from one season into the next.
Nature seems remarkably unhurried.
Yet somehow we've convinced ourselves that we should be different.
Perhaps that's why so many of us feel exhausted…because we're carrying the invisible responsibility of trying to manage every outcome.
Maybe you've felt that too.
That quiet urge to keep evaluating your life.
Am I doing enough?
Am I behind?
Should something be happening already?
I don't think these questions make us weak.
I think they make us wonderfully human.
But I do wonder whether they sometimes keep us from experiencing one of life's gentlest invitations….to leave a little room for something beyond ourselves to do the growing.
There is a beautiful difference between showing up and trying to control the outcome.
We can take the next faithful step. We can care deeply. We can be present.
But some things simply cannot be forced.
Maybe growth looks far quieter than we imagine.
Maybe the most meaningful changes are taking place long before they become visible.
Maybe what feels still is simply taking root.
There is something deeply comforting in remembering that we don't have to force every season of our lives into bloom.
Some things cannot be hurried….some things cannot be measured…some things can only be received.
So if you find yourself checking, questioning, wondering whether enough is happening...
Perhaps today is an invitation to simply exhale….to let life have a little room to unfold.
Because not everything beautiful grows when it is pushed.
Sometimes it grows because it was finally given enough room to breathe.
